I want you to imagine yourself putting on your sharpest, freshly pressed suit and walking into a company, interviewing with the managers and making your best impression on them. You can see them nodding and smiling as you answer their questions eloquently, confidently and enthusiastically.

After an hour of being drilled by them you ask that final question, “Am I the right fit for your position? Do I have the job?” They reply by telling you that you made a great impression and you will hear from them soon. A few days later, you finally receive the call that you’ve been waiting for as the person on the other end of the line says, “Yes, you have the job!”  You’re ecstatic.

Let’s jump forward two weeks and it’s your first day. You haven’t been so happy to get back to work in a long time. Everyone greets you with a huge smile and welcomes you in with open arms.

You have a new buddy to show you around. He shows you where the pantry is, the restroom, and finally, your new workstation. Now, you are sitting at your brand new desk, cleaning it off with that industrial-sized Windex bottle that they only have in office buildings and you are waiting to get your login and password for your computer.

How do you feel at this moment?

Frustrated? No. Depressed? No. Excited with a sense of accomplishment, YES!
I want you to carry that enthusiasm and excitement with you throughout your job search.

Some of you have been looking for a new job for a long time. It’s tough – I get it. But you have to look like a winner. Nobody wants to work with a grump so make sure that you aren’t that person. You especially don’t want to be that person when you are in an interview. I’ve been on both sides of the fence and it’s not cool. If you look angry, bitter and stressed out, nobody is going to want to hire you.

So, get back to the fun-loving person that you are and who everyone wants to hang out with.
